SERP preview FAQ
How long should a title tag be?+
Google truncates by pixel width, not characters. Titles are cut around 600px on desktop, which is usually 50 to 60 characters but depends on the letters, wide characters like W and M eat more space. This tool measures the real rendered width in Arial so you know before you publish.
How long should a meta description be?+
Aim to stay under about 960px, roughly 155 to 160 characters on desktop. Mobile allows a little more. If you go over, Google trims the end with an ellipsis, so put the important words first.
Will Google use my exact meta description?+
Not always. Google rewrites descriptions when it thinks a different snippet better matches the query. Writing a tight, relevant description makes it more likely yours is used and gives you control over the length searchers see.
Why do the review stars show in the preview?+
Those illustrate what a result looks like with review or aggregate-rating schema. They only appear in real search results if you add valid structured data. Use our schema generator to create it, then validate and track it inside SmashSERP.
